| I am pleased to announce that Katherine Yeung, Software Quality Engineer, Server QE team, has been named the Technology Employee of the Month for April 2007. Please join me in congratulating her. Katherine Yeung
Software Quality Engineer
Server QE
Katherine joined the server QE team only 9 months ago, but her contribution to important customer issues, urgent HF/Patch releases (for Filiadata, VISA, Google, etc) are significant. She always gives the highest priority to processing important customer issues and certifies urgent releases. She never spares her efforts to test more when confirming engineers's fix - with the hope to find issue(s) before customers start to complain about them. During the certification of a patch release, Katherine found a new format issue of the Export Engine, she worked till 9:00 PM with Export Engine engineer to debug and test the new fix, so the patch release can reach the customer the next day. At the end of April, she is working on a Dashboard issue reported by Google. Again, she found more issues when testing the fix provided by the engineer and took quick action to provide debug environment for engineers.
Katherine has continually demonstrated skills that could only be seen with outstanding Quality Engineers. During the testing of a specially requested feature for VISA, and then an issue fix for the feature, that was released as a patch, she just didn't stop with merely verifying the issue fix. She went ahead and prepared a set of test cases that helped identify many different issues that would have otherwise gone undiscovered. And she was doing these despite working late hours and on weekends, in addition to multiplexing with her regular acceptance testing. She has always been a cheerful person to work with.
Katherine did a terrific job handling the 8.1 customer issues from Google. She provided detail steps for reproducing the issues which is really appreciated by backend engineers to speed up the investigation. She took quick action helping backend engineers setting up debug environment and confirming the fix. What impressed me most was that she proactively did further test on the feature with comprehensive input combinations. As a result, she was able to find additional bugs. Being a new QE to the backend team, what she did was impressive, and deserves recognition.
Release managers are impressed by her quick actions, thorough testing, great communications and great productivity. Here are 2 quotes from them:
"I have only worked with Kat very recently but I noticed that she did a good job taking her testing further than just the Google stuff and uncovered more issues which we chose to hot fix as well. I have been impressed with her responsibility and great attitude to her work..."
"I have also only worked in a few escalations and fires with her, but I have to say that I'm really impressed. Specially being a junior QE, she has given me results that exceed what I would expect even from someone senior. Her work is fast and accurate and she provides excellent feedback. I also think that she definitely deserves some recognition."
Of course, the Server QE team is very proud to have such a reliable team mate.
